Back Pain caused by High Heels

One of the essential elements of any fashionable wardrobe, is a nice pair of high heels. This is for the stylish and the Vogue reading women. Gucci, Steve Madden, Manolo blahnik, Christian Louboutin are all the name we recognize.

What do these high heels really do? For a women it makes the legs appear longer, the tush will appear to be higher and the calves are going to look and appear sleeker. What they are is a symbol of sex appeal and of course feminine beauty.

The one thing that high heels are to the chiropractors and the orthopedic surgeons are a problem. These shoes are the cause of many of the womens back pains. If you are the slave to fashion, you could find yourself enslaved to have chronic back pain that are due to those 4 inch stilettos.

Women will walk an average of 10,000 steps a day. When in a pair of high heels she is putting one heck of a strain on her back and is also putting her health at risk.

The high heels actually cause the body’s weight to actually be centered forward, on or in the toes. Rather than distributed equally throughout the entire foot. What happens is this goes against gravity and nature. It causes stress on the muscles and on the vertebrae of the spine.

What happens when those high heeled women take off those shoes, you hear that “ahhhhh”. What has happened is the relief of her whole body feeling towards being back on solid earth. The back pain has been relieved for now. It will come back to haunt her. What can happen is pain in the form of muscle spasms, soreness and of course stiffness.

The High Heeled Hell Story The trend for many centuries was for both men and women to wear high heels. It would make them seem taller and show some form of status in high society. Women would wear them to help increase their overall beauty and men would wear them to keep their feet in stirrups.

High heels are no longer fashionable for men but they still are for women and has been since the 1500’s. Today, high heels are not only associated with youth and high fashion, but with sex as well. Playboy models, runway models and celebrities all still portray this trend. The high heel allure is among the masses.

The worst part is the women have been suffering from back pain ever since the 1500’s and all due to those high heels. What do the high heels cause:

calluses – bunions – curvature of the spine – pain in buttocks and back of calves – chronic back pain – hip pain – knee osteoarthritis – slipped disks – hammertoe

In the 1980’s, the fat high heel became popular and is not less harmful than the skinny toed heel that is popular today. The fat high heel showed that it caused increase pressure on the knees.

Podiatrists and orthopedists recommend wearing a one half to three quarter inch heel. This height is better to reduce back pain than the flat heeled shoes. A small lift from the heels supports the foot, knees and back. Physicians believe that back pain would be reduced if high heels came with a warning label that read “Hazardous to your health!
