The figures explaining how much Plumbers can earn is often talked about in the papers. Figures of 30-70k p.a. are touted, alongside much talk of the profound shortage in the number of Plumbers within the UK. So, are we being told a story or is this the genuine picture? For the competent and correctly skilled person, this level of salary is realistic. In fact, earnings in excess of 70 – 100k p.a. are achievable – but that is solely for those who work within the self-employed market-place, rather than those who work within established employment routes.

If you are working for a traditional company within the UK, then the hours of Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm are normal. Approximately wages of 15k and 30k p.a. are reasonable within the UK, along with standard benefits such as holiday pay and sickness allowance. A self-employed person can earn more money than this traditional approach, but will often need to work outside of the Mon- Fri, 9am to 6pm example. Without a doubt in the domestic market many clients require evening and weekend visits and self employed plumbers have to meet that need.

Also there is the factor of self-employment and whether it goes with some people more than others. Finally there is good ‘business sense’, such as getting the hourly rate correct, advertising and marketing budgets spot on which are all important. The Self Employed Entrant on the other hand will need to widen their list of plumbing accreditations and certifications as quickly as possible. That said the vast majority of self-employed plumbers appear to favour the ‘domestic’ instead of the commercial market. (Not all, just the majority!)

There does appear to be some union between certification relating to each path of Plumbing education and hence the industry. It is when the issue of NVQ’s (SVQ’s in Scotland) is considered that a considerable discrepancy becomes clear.

From the outset, it is clear that the Self Employed Entrant does not depend as much upon the NVQ’s as the Student Entrant. In order to meet their client’s expectations the Self Employed Entrant will often need to use a greater range of certifications. Certainly, the self-employed person needs to rapidly gain the key domestic-centred qualifications that will satisfy their typical household-based clients. Once they have covered the core parts the Student Entrant will often carry on their study not dissimilar to an apprenticeship in the workplace (where the NVQ element can be appraised.) Considerable savings potential exists to the Student Entrant by taking on this cheaper form of study. Nevertheless by taking a more commercial viewpoint and gaining qualifications faster than the Student Entrant, many Self Employed Entrants gain greater financial rewards and within a shorter space of time.

The situation whereby Self Employed Entrants can continue with their current job and maintain their financial position remains one of the core advantages of training in evening, part-time or self study classes. Many people wonder why they get charged one rate at a Super 8. airport hotels and another at a Hilton when they are using nothing more than a bed. If that is the case, they may be staying at the wrong type of hotel facilities and could use a little guidance as to what to expect based on the top of property that they are staying. Lodging comes in three different tiers and each one of them is meant to service a specific market.

The lowest level of amenities will be received at extended stay properties. These are properties that are strictly meant for longer stays that will not cost as much money as any other type of hotel or motel. It is a rare extended stay property that will have a rate anywhere near $100/night. The longer the guest is staying, the more likely that the rate will be lower. Maid service in limited service properties will usually be a daily occurrence, unless they are at the bottom tier of the scale. They may even only offer it on request. While some of them offer meeting rooms and banquet space, it is very limited. There may or may not be a restaurant on property and will probably offer a continental breakfast for their guests.

The hotels with the best hotel facilities are known as full service hotels. For these amenities, the guest can expect to pay considerably more. A nice travel tip is to look for full service hotels that are surrounded by limited service hotels. They will have to drop their rates to stay competitive in their market.

Types of full service hotels would be properties such as Hilton and Marriott. They are typical of full service hotels in that they treat their VIP members like gold. Their highest levels can expect free breakfast, a welcome amenity, honor bar with free hours d’ oeuvres and express check ins. These types of properties are generally required to have a full service restaurant, health spa, snack shop along with high end banquet facilities.

If a travel is doing nothing more than sleeping in their room, why waste the money at a full service hotel. Many of the questions we’ve seen on the Interviewing message board have shown some of our readers difficulties to get a search started when somebody’s leave job or lose a job. But I thought that this thing is useful for us to start at the beginning.

One thing is very clear about the work culture of the new millennium is that nearly all work is now short term, frequently even careers themselves. You have to prepare for change whether it suits your style or not. If we mention the current statistics so we can see that almost all say that the average job is only about three to four years now, but if we talk about 15 years ago when the average tenure of the job was 10 years.

Whenever you join any new organization it is good to understand well in advance that there will be many ups and down mostly during the first week of you’re joining. This ride will mostly include sadness, lack of interest, denial, anger, and then some more anger. Everyone goes through this stage to one degree or another, and I don’t believe the people who say they don’t

It is not good to call everyone you know and start sending out resumes, answering ads, and calling recruiters. Because most of the times you are not prepared for the start a search after a separation. Don’t do a job search “on the rebound”. You’ll probably say things that you will wish you hadn’t. But it is good to share your true feelings about the situation with only a few people- maybe your close friends or your family members. You don’t want everyone to avoid you (”Uh oh, here comes the whiner…”). Do you want to start your own business? Consult? Do you have Dot-com-Virus? This may all involve some extensive self-assessment, with or without outside assistance – but it’s necessary.

And then, of course, you need to research your target

It is good to stick on the marketing plans which you have created. Work the system; there are no shortcuts, except for the occasional bolt of lightning. Discipline and consistency this two things account for a lot in this process.

If you are really serious listening while developing those relationships, your target might adjust and shift.

There is a tidal wave of change about to hit technology over the next few decades – and this means greater innovations all the time.

We are really only just beginning to comprehend how all this change will affect us. How we communicate and interact with everyone around us will be inordinately affected by technology and the web.

Let’s not ignore salaries moreover – the typical remuneration over this country as a whole for the usual man or woman in IT is significantly better than the national average. Chances are that you’ll receive quite a bit more than you’d expect to earn doing other work.

Apparently there is no end in sight for IT jobs expansion across Britain.
