Fuses are electrical devices that are installed in an electric circuit so as to interrupt the exceeding current by creating an open circuit condition. These are meant to protect the expensive appliances from being burnt out by voltage surges.

Fuse prevents electrical circuit damage and if not possible to totally prevent , it minimizes the level of damage by limiting it to lowest level that is possible.

A fusible link is connected between the fuse terminals, so that when the electrical current flowing through the fuse exceeds a predetermined limit, the link melts and open the circuit through the fuse to prevent electrical component damage. The blown off fuse link is then required to be replaced by a new one since fixing the old one is not possible.

Replacing a fuse doesn’t mean that you need to call an electrician, in fact you can yourself do the task without any much difficulty. Switching off the power supply is the first and foremost step that should be considered while replacing a fuse. Next, comes the task of removing the blown fuse and inserting the new one. While doing so, make sure that you are replacing it with that of similar rating.

In addition to this, never touch the metal parts while removing or inserting the fuse. Moreover, you should wear insulated gloves to be safe. Ensure, you do not try replace the fuse with wet hands.

If the fuse blows again before turning on any device, a serious wiring fault may exist. Call in a qualified electrician immediately.

Fuses protect electrical devices, components and circuits from over currents and short circuits. In addition to this, high reliability is one of the major advantage of using the fuse for over current protection. These are capable of limiting the overloads to only single circuit thus minimizing the danger of fire. Other benefits include circuit breaking and relatively low cost.

Fuses are employed in almost every electrical appliance so as to protect them against overload damages. Some very common areas of application of electrical fuse are motor bikes, ships and other vehicles. Moreover, fuses can provide for redundancy for the purpose of preventing reduction of yield of the semiconductor devices.

Lighting is often the last thing considered in a kitchen design and the first thing cut from a budget. But to look its best and function well, a kitchen must be properly lit and that involves more than just specifying stylish fixtures. A good plan blends lighting into the architectural and decorative details of the room.

Usually many people are into a habit of using a single ceiling mounted fixture for their kitchen. But this is not the right way to light up a kitchen as it will result in too much light in some areas and shadows else where.

A single lighting fixture can never provide adequate lighting for a kitchen. There are basic four types of lighting which should be included in a kitchen to get the desired effect.

Task Lighting. It is the workhorse of illumination and provides adequate light for tasks like chopping vegetables and reading recipes. Optimum placement of task lighting comes between a person’s head and the work surface, which makes lighting located below the upper cabinets so effective. If a kitchen remodel includes a pantry, make sure to specify task lighting there as well.

Ambient lighting. It creates a warm glow that fills a room, softens shadows and helps to make people feel instantly welcome in a kitchen. If cabinets do not reach all the way to the ceiling, that space is a great spot for ambient light. Of the four types of lighting, ambient is most often overlooked.

Third category is the accent lighting. These lights are basically used to draw special attention to certain features like any art work etc. Recessed lights are a good option. You can also use lights in the glass cabinets to highlight china, glassware, and other collections.

Decorative lighting. Generally this type of lighting is referred to as architectural jewelry. It adds sparkle to a space.

You can also use dimmer switches in the kitchen. With these you are able to control the brightness of light as per your needs and mood. Like, you have bright light while preparing food. On the other hand you can dim the lighting level for a more romantic evening or dinner. But always go for separate dimmer switches for each type of lighting rather than using one for all.

Increasing your home’s lighting is the quickest and easiest way to make your home look brighter and sell faster. So, if you want to make your home more appealing with the simple flick of a switch, install bulbs with the maximum wattage your fixtures will safely allow and turn on all the lights.

With the right interior and exterior lighting, your home will become more appealing and easier to sell.

Always make sure that you have adequate and a good lighting scheme for the exterior areas of your home. Remove the dust form the outdoor lights regularly so that they emit maximum light. For outdoor areas like gardens and driveways, you can get accent lights installed which which can beautifully highlight these areas.

Your front entrance and the hallway must be well lit. You can go for high- wattage bulbs for that area as it is the main entrance so good lighting is required for safety and security purposes as well. If you have some artwork, you can use recessed or pot lights to highlight it. Painting the walls with light colors and adding mirrors is a good idea to make the area look bright and open.

The kitchen is the most popular room in the home, so make sure yours shines. Put the spotlight on your kitchens best features with a mix of recessed lights in the ceiling, task lighting around work areas (i.e. hidden fluorescent lights over the stove and counter tops) and accent lights over your table.

If a room or an area is well lit, it makes it look larger. So, try to have arrangements for natural light as well. Like, keep the window shades and curtains open during the day time and also make sure that the lighting is shadow free.

Ensure table lamps have 40- or 60-watt bulbs with attractive, translucent shades that cast a nice glow for entertaining or reading. Add a couple of non-scented candles for extra ambiance.

Along with all other areas of your home, do not forget to light up your bathroom as insufficient lighting in a bathroom can give a very uncomfortable feel. Areas like over the tub, shower and vanity mirrors should specially be properly lit. Florescent bulbs can be used here. Use bulbs with CRI 80 or more. This can enhance the wall colors and can give a bright look. Installing a night light is also a good idea.
