History says that early civilizations are presumed to have so little in terms of belongings that they are totally packed and ready to leave in one day. That\’s the result of being carefree nomads then. After all, who would still have energy to travel for long periods to reach an unfamiliar destination after packing up for days?

The previous civilizations were just practical. They didn\’t require that much items, taking only what they needed and just looked for the rest. They certainly didn\’t need self-storage then.

So how did self-storage, with its concept being so prevalent today, hit mankind?

Its beginnings have diverse historical accounts, depending on the areas. Chinese ancestors used to store their private things in clay pots before the containers with precious belongings were buried underground and kept supervised to make sure that nobody got hold of them. They had applied this for more than 6,000 years.

British history, meanwhile, presented another way of keeping valuables safe and sound. Accordingly, British dignitaries, in an effort to protect their valuables, hid them in banks. These banks, in turn, commissioned moving firms to secure these things.

Self-storage for the businesses then meant putting these valuable items in crates and holding them in secure lofts or stables. They even placed watchmen on guard.

Protecting valuables and other cherished possessions in the past involved many people and presented quite a challenge to the owner. Gaining access to these hidden possessions seemed rather challenging, but this could be just a feature added to be certain that the thigns were safeguarded against stealing. Wouldn\’t it be rather funny if we were to excavate clay pots if we want to get our things?

Self-storage as it is known today trails it origins to a place called Odessa in Texas. Mr. Russ Williams, who was involved in the oil industry, found that he needed a site where he could keep his fishing gear. Plus his boats, naturally!

This led him to purchase a group of apartments and garages, which he promptly leased to other businesses in the oil industry. And the rest, as they say, is self-storage history.

Many people are making the most of the space-saving benefits of self-storage. It is now a rising need, with people always getting new things but not having enough living spaces to hold their belongings. It has become a requirement for those who need a spot apart from their homes to store their possessions.

Letting go of things that hold sentimental value is often difficult to do. Time comes, however, that we have to choose between the things that need to remain and the things that we have to go on without primarily due to lack of storage spaces. But why sacrifice the things that have personal significance when you can keep them in Singapore storage facilities?

Storage facilities refer to a type of business that specializes in providing rent storage spaces and subdivide units. There are usually two classifications of storage facilities: warehouse and self-storage. Storage warehouses cater to businesses that need temporary space storage for a large quantity of goods. On the other hand, self-storage pertains to subdivided storage units which are available for lease to people and business organizations.

Self storage is thus a good choice for storing items that are either small in size or in quantity. Businesses that operate storage facilities are in fact providing size estimator so prospective customers can determine the size they need. Aside from this, storage facilities guarantee that their client\’s valuable things are stored in a secure storage area. CCTVs are installed all over the place for easy monitoring of storage units. Storage facilities also ensure that only the lessee holds the key for his/her storage unit.

It is indeed more advantageous entrusting valuable items to storage facilities than keeping them at home. Homeowners don\’t usually have a storage unit that is weather resistant. Hence, valuable things that are susceptible to extreme weather conditions can be easily damaged. Those items can also be misplaced especially when the house is messy and unorganized. Worst, burglars may attack and get everything which they believe is worth selling.

Things that are valuable are worth keeping. When homes lack space or security features, people may consider Singapore storage facilities. Choosing them assures people one important thing, and that is peace of mind.
